One of the greatest most distinct drum voices ever.

Meaning...not many drums stand out in history as being so identifiable sound wise.
Signature is one of them also, though great themselves, I think leaned too far one way. Just my opinion. But I do believe the name, the badges, the veneers, the "thicker the shell equals more" back then made Signatures the more desirable one. Just like it was easy to believe "Lites" where less, it was easy to believe Phonic Plus' were less.

EDIT:Just re-read your post Greg to try and better understand. Designers, SClassix...great drums, great sound. Not nearly as "distinct" a sound as Phonic plus'.

I suppose I would rather say that Phonics Plus are near an extreme of a continuum of drum sounds. Signatures are farther out on that line, being thicker and therefor even drier and more focussed. I don't have all that much experience with the larger world of drum production, so can't really comment.

Distinct

A thing can only be as distinctly not something else as that something else must be distinctly not it. Oh well...

SInce I never played Plus with anything but Pinstripes, I have no idea what they sound like full throated. My point was that, as delivered, they were ideal recorded-rock-sound reproduction units.

You're in another direction.

I did say "one of the greatest MOST distinct......
Of course there is another end of the spectrum. Still not as distinct....recognizable...identifiable.
What is the other end??

Dunno. But you did say "one of" , so I'm interested to know what are the others? Or was that a rhetorical device?

Kelly, when are we going to see the newly veneered tom?
