Well, I've been through the DrumDial settings, tried out some theories, and discovered, for me, that trying to draw the optimum resonance from a veneered SClassix kit is not suitable for a Rock band, in a 'close mic' environment.
The drums have far, far, far too much sustain when tuned that way, so I'm gonna crank the reso heads a little higher too peg them back a little.
Amazing, easy as that, and shes just lovely to play. Still very full, with a lengthy sustain, but more presence.
I know many of you guys try to pull the optimum resonance/sustain from your drums, but heavy sustain of 3+ seconds :o per stroke is ridiculous, and I prefer not to 'Gate' my drums, but with equal tension top/bottom Live, the drums needed to be gated, and thats with 2ply coated batters  :? :|

Cheers

Probably true of all y'all down under, where the sound pours out of the top of the drum rather than in the authorized fashion out the bottom. :P

Damn Mercans, if I could walk that far up hill I'd come and get Ya, but if you walk down hill to me, LOOK OUT :? .
Maybe thats it, more resonance down here under your dums

That wouldn't be me Jeff. I would expect the SClassix to be exceptional in that area though and I would like it because of the range. I would rather work my way down from optimum resonance and sustain, like you are doing than trying to do the opposite.

Well... I've tried that head, on Signature, Classix and Designer maple. I still have at least one, in its box, on the shelf.

Surprising...I won't use anything else and tried them on just as many. And I like them just as well on a 20 or 22.

I don't know how you tune, Jeff, or what your technique is, but I do have a loose idea. Kelly, I know how you tune and how you play. Those things, coupled with expectation (ie. what your model is) make quite a difference. Still waiting to understand Goki. More information needed! :)

The way I see it Gregory - I don't have a problem with the reso head. That side sounds great.
It's the batter head that gives me trouble. It's obvious I want the sound of a coated head, from my end, I just don't know what type of head to use.

Or, I can put some light material inside. It will make the tone a bit dull, but at least I'll be able to play it like I know...
I think I'll get the same result with a coated emperor, but guess what - no coated emperors here... :|

So let's go this way:

What is (would be) your head combo on a 22" bass drum?!?
Kelly - thanx for the EQ1 tip - what's on the other side?!?

Probably not for you Goki. I only use Aquarian Sk's. SKII on a 22 and SKI on a 20.
These with those reso's are perfect for what I do.

I'm trying to find a video to show you of something else. I just want to know if it is the type of thing you are looking for.
Stand by....

I don't know if you can get these over there but the Aquarian superkick1 and a regulator are a reliable set up.
Double PS3's work as well.
I have not had much experience with evans but when I used an emad i liked it in the studio but hated it live

Goki, try a couple of strips of Gaffa Tape on the batter head. This will choke its vibration somewhat, but also muffle that plastic PS3 sound.
A couple of generous strips halfway to the centre, might work, very cheap, easily adjustable (more/less) and you've got nothing to lose, its the batter clear head, Gaffa won't ruin it ;) .
Try 2 pieces, around 6in long, one horizontal above beater, one below.

Good Luck,Cheers ;)

Just for what it's worth my brother in law runs a recording studio and uses nothing but Emps, and he gets some of the best drum sounds Ive heard.
You mught want to try one on the kick
