Yup. My wife see the inside of every drum shop on our route whenever we travel, too.

I was curious about your motivation for change. For me,There was a point somewhere back there where my playing style became lower volume, and I started hearing cymbals differently.

Consequently, I began looking at a lot of cymbals that were previously not on my radar, and have found a lot of interesting things in the process.

I had never owned a Sabian in over 40 years of playing, and recently put together a set of the first Jack DeJohnette Signature series, and a few pieces of the Jack DeJohnette Encore Series, but these are the only Sabians I have ever played.

I took a complete leap of faith and just recently ordered a set of Ibrahim Diril AD Series in custom specs. From what I am told they should be about a week away fom my door, and I am feeling like a kid before Christmas.

Good luck with your packing and preparing. I hope you end up with enough headroom in you weight allowance to take all the good stuff back to the UK

I have to say, yes. The Oak kit is head & shoulders above the Beech. The Beech kit is the one now relegated to rehearsal status.

As I've said before, on numerous forums, the Oak Custom is the hidden jewel in the rough (Like the Sonor Force Maple's in the 90's) of the current Yamaha lines. They have all the punch, power and presence you need for the big 'rock/metal' gigs, but are also subtle enough for low key piano duo work in restaraunts.

If anyone were to ask me, the most versatile, and best value kit around at the moment is the Yamaha Oak Custom. And this is from someone who has played, owned and still owns Sonor drums since 1979.

:? I'm willing to believe that the Mapex are great sounding drums, but I'm not impressed by the sound on this video.

Not questioning you Greg, thats fine. It is doubtful that Shane would put up a bad sounding kit trying to sell it. Just not for you perhaps. Did you like the cymbals?

There are countless Mapex videos on Youtube, get a general consensus there and report back. Just about everything I have heard sounds terrific. Like them a lot.
