I have to say, yes. The Oak kit is head & shoulders above the Beech. The Beech kit is the one now relegated to rehearsal status.
As I've said before, on numerous forums, the Oak Custom is the hidden jewel in the rough (Like the Sonor Force Maple's in the 90's) of the current Yamaha lines. They have all the punch, power and presence you need for the big 'rock/metal' gigs, but are also subtle enough for low key piano duo work in restaraunts.
If anyone were to ask me, the most versatile, and best value kit around at the moment is the Yamaha Oak Custom. And this is from someone who has played, owned and still owns Sonor drums since 1979.
