I had a Mapex Orion kit for 15ys. Bought it back when No one, myself included, New who, or what Mapex was, except Billy Cobham.
Kit was nice, but the specs have changed since then, different edges,thickness,fittings,etc..............
Rumour has it, Keller made their earlier shells, but the ply lay-up looked nothing like Keller to me, less plies, and thicker individual plies, the current shells look more like Keller, with Sonor bearing edges.
The hardware used on my Mapex kit was very ordinary, and threads would strip on-stage
, I swapped out most of the hardware with my older Tama stuff, which incidentally, is still kickin 22yrs after I bought it.
PS/ Mapex drums are made in the same KHS factory site as MIC Sonor (made in China), you could get yourself a 3007 for heaps cheaper.
Cheers
