The date stamp is sadly unintelligible and there doesn't appear to be a number on the badge

Nice snare, percusski! Do you have quarter sawn (old style) bubinga on that kit?

Regarding serial numbers: My two floor toms have serial numbers on their badges, but the two racks do not. And my bass does not, since it has no badge (deleted because of tom mount track, I presume). I don't believe that Designers without #'s connote anything negative.

Yeah, I teach so there are constantly people moving around (often it seems without any coordination!) near the drums so i ain't taking any chances!

I know it looks more like the old Sig bubinga than that funny brown swirly stuff they're calling bubinga nowadays, I picked up a Designer snare in that finish and it looked and sounded horrible :(

:D

It was a Designer birch snare, I was hoping it would share some of the characteristics of the Lite snares but alas...those are special snares.
The red sparkle adds to the fundamental tone of the drum of course :P

What is it about the Lite snare? I've never played one. The Classix suggests that I might like a birch piece.

Seriously Greg? you never tried one?
They are fantastic drums, they have sort of a solid shell tone and body with the bark of a sonor snare. Thats the only way I can explain it, they are pretty awesome. You can buy one and if you don't like it resell it quickly and not lose a penny, worth doing. I think it might fit your new kit and style pretty well.

I have both the 547 and the 4" Lite, it's strange but they just have a very musical note, I can only describe it as colour. I don't like snares to be too dry, half a piece of moongel on the very edge just to take of the harmonics and that's it! As Tim says it is definitely worth trying one. In fact one went recently in the UK for about £260 which I thought was an incredible price despite it being about 3/5 condition.
One of my students just acquired a Sonor Lite kit in red which included a 547, I've sent him away to clean up the whole kit which I hope he does :D
