It is an SQ2 shell and hardware with an Designer badge - from the factory! :o [/color]



I think the one on the left is either a special order or a prototype. The inside mount on each lug is a little bit further away from the center of the shell. The shell would resonate differently with the more exposed wood area. I would at least try this configuration if I were designing at the Sonor factory to see how it sounhded.

Hey, Barry. Neither looks normal to me. Designer snares always had eccentrically placed single node lugs, with longer rods toward the bottom rim growing depending on thickness of shell. That is, Designer snares before that one. :lol:

Yup. As I understand it, I got lucky and hit a fairly narrow window for ordering split lugs on Designer snares. ;)

Long story behind the one on the left, but it is certainly an SQ2 with a Designer badge.

Not by special request/order, but no complaints.

The answer for the different layout of the lugs seems very logical to me...

The snare on the left has internal tune-safe, right Cliff?!? So, as a result, the drum makers had a chance to move the lugs towards the edges... :)

BOTH snares are simply GORGEOUS - :D :D :D

Both are gorgeous, but in my opinion not equally so. External tunesafes create visual clutter. Both are, however, better looking than standard.

I've never noticed any of this while playing. :D :D :D
