So, REMO and EVANS made the Drum Dial, so that reso heads would get damaged every time you use it?!? Conspiracy theory...

That whole presentation is just wrong in so many ways. No wonder so many people that have not worked with one themselves have such a negative impression of Drum Dials... :o

...and putting them (a tension measuring tool) in the same 'category' as a 'lug tensioning tool' is just stupid. So many things can effect lug tension that have no relationship to head tension and tuning. :?

...and when it is all done, hold your hand on the reso head, randomly whack the batter head somewhere, and declare it 'good'. :(

Freddy unintentionally killed that one even better than Robert Benchley could have, by intent.
:?

Gregg Bissonette has an informative and entertaining tuning lesson on the Drum Channel site.

The Freddy video had me wondering if I tension my toms too loosely. I use a drumdial to get my drums close, but the toms generally end up around 74-75 tops! He's doing 78 and the drums sound like saucepans. I don't understand how they sound so different on playback...

Back in the 80s, I had a Neary Drum Torque. What a joke that was!
