Greg,
The one thing I will say ebay has going for it, particularly in this economy, is that people actually go there looking to buy things! I have listed stuff on forums for years and it's a great way to do it because it is way more personal and there is less risk. But my experience this lately has been that forumites are doing more tire kicking and asking endless questions without ever really being serious about the purchase in the first place. Nice thing about ebay (there are many bad things too - like the fees and the new feedback rules for sellers), is that the auction does have an end date and potential buyers need to either put up or shut up (so to speak) by the end.
You do have to know the market and price your stuff to sell, however, which usually means breaking even at best these days.
A) That is one beautiful kit. Thank you God for not giving me more money, so that I can't have a building full of drums that I could never learn fully how to play any of them.
B) It is an interesting fact about forums, that on the large they are actively populated by people who talk a lot but don't have any money, or by lurkers waiting to see an unusual piece go by. Perhaps I occupy both categories.
But I was describing my personal experience, not how the world works, not expressing a view about ebay or its practices. I have no criticism with its workings; it is what it is, and I find it a very useful tool.
I often comb ebay but am generally diverted elsewhere. Curious. Same thing is true when selling; even when mounted on ebay, sales have happened along other avenues, and I don't mean by stopping the auction for an offer.
