I can see a musical situation where a side snare would be incredibly useful- but its probably not a genre you guys would play a lot... If you're playing a lot of breakbeats/drum-n-bass/ techno type stuff, a side snare really helps in that scenario.

Just my .02

There is definitely benefits using a 2nd snare in certain musical styles.
But i think the 2nd needs to sound vastly different. Where, inevitably the 2nd snare (or first) will either have a Timbale sound, or a choked snap sound.

I think that this is just a conspiracy to piss Kelly off :P , that Timbal sound will live forever man   Lives forever by Rimshotting your main snare halfway to the edge :o , or a little closer the edge :? .

PS/ Shits me too,Kel :) .

Where else you gonna go with a second snare... other than upside down? :o  I admit that belly-side up never occurred to me; a snare seems so vulnerable on its back.

Greg (Patterson) uses one, I think. Maybe he'll pipe in.

It just sits there and cries, pleading with me not to hit it.
I don't think you need one for rock though.....but it is nice to have a backup for when your main goes down in the middle of a show

Yes Gregory, I do use a 12" side snare. I must confess, I don't use it very much. But it's nice to have that added voice to my kit.

Sure. But would you if it were one more thing you carried to the gig?

Yes it is Cliff, brand new Fiberskin 3 Ambassador. I got the shielded logo with my initials from Vintage Logos, and the classic Sonor logo from Bentleys drum shop. I removed the Remo logo with nail polish remover. I put the Sonor logo over it. You can't see where the Remo logo was, unless your right in front of it. If I would've had all 3 logos on there, it'd look too "Nascarish" IMO.
