The thud of Phils Phonic kit can be heard on the 2nd highest selling album of ALL time.
I think 30+yrs of dedication to the product resulted in his Sig snare, he (apparently) chose the badge as he is a huge fan of the Sig series. His touring kit is based on their specs, and hes toured that exact same kit all around the world for the last 6+yrs.

BTW/ the lugs on the Rudd snare are identical to the Delites and SClassix, and the drum has received worldwide acclaim.
Swap out the heads and they are awesome. We sat the Rudd snare side by side with Brass Delites (cast hoops) Brass SClassix's (cast and without). All drums were very similar with the cast hoops making obvious differences, and Rudd was let down by the dullness of the Asian Heads, but that tone was there. If it had German Cast hoops and 'German Made' written on the badge , I'd bet the difference would barely recognizable . Other than the Chrome

Interesting fact, but (i) I am not among the 49 million that bought the album, and, (ii) even if I was the only person on the planet that didn't buy it, the number of contrary opinions would not affect mine.

My comments were not about the drum itself. I have never played one, and it is pretty likely that I won't ever have need of a metal snare drum.

More food for thought: The vast majority of people on the planet do not play Phil Rudd snare drums...or any other drums, for that matter. What can we do with this information?

Kidding aside, the first of two points in my original post was that Sonor appears to be using the halo of the Horst Link Signature Series to lend credibility to a totally unrelated drum, and that, in my opinion de-values the legend of the Signature Series.

Secondly, I think of Sonor drums as instruments from which a variety of tonal qualities can be finessed, yet Sonor leans torward endorsers, both the highly visible, and the lesser known, that don't emphasize those qualities, and could sound pretty much the same on any brand of drums.

Sure there are exceptions like Jack De Johnette, 'Tain' Watts, Adam Nussbaum, Brooke Sofferman, Mike Starcher, and others, but Phil Rudd, not so much.

Either way, since the Phil Rudd snare drum has not attracted me on it own merits, and since Phil has not convinced me that I need one, I am out of the market, and I hope that makes it easier and less expensive for you to pick one up, and enjoy it.

Amen to that.
And when, in a last ditch effort, you go no holds barred, shoot for their best, spend 12k doing it, and then find yourself trying to love the kit....(surely 12K has to sound superior )...might be time to explore some other options.

I made enough waves through a few of those years to get an email from Hohner thanking me. I still find it funny.
Those early years were remarkable. I could call the factory in Germany and get just about anything I asked for.

Premier should hire me. Even the biggest known collector in the US wants to know where I'm finding stuff ha.
