Next time I change a head on it, I'll check lug placements, rims, and head collars.

I don't understand the question. From what I can see, the lug placement makes the lug placement look different. Unless those are different size shells?

I understood the question to be about the difference in exposed thread, top vs.bottom, on the SQ2.
