Gary,

Thanks for all the info. I just read your FT to BD conversion thread, and the final result was awesome. Did you end up getting veneer from www.veneersupplies.com?

I guess that lug on the bottom middle might be an issue if I'm gonna use the FT mounts for the BD legs? Was that still a problem with your Gibraltar riser?

I have some orphan Phonics that I would love to recover in some veneer. I'm very jealous of some of the handiwork I've seen recently at the Sonor Forum. I have zero free time and no experience so I'm a little reticent to dive in at this point.

Yes, I've seen some of those, too, particularly the ones using contact cement or paper backed veneer for adhesion. Really, quite good!

OK, finally got up to Shane's place in NH to pick up the rest of the Phonic Plus kit. It's a really cool, small store. Unfortunately, I had exactly zero time to hang out and tap on drums. Shane wasn't there but Tony and I chatted for awhile. Very nice guy. They have about 50 snare drums tagged at $1,000 or more... I guess some of them probably sound OK? ;)

Here is the BEAST as I threw it together in the basement. I will never have occasion to play it all together like this but it makes for some cool pictures! (diam x depth) 24x18, 20x17, 10x10, 12x12, 13x13, 14x14, 15x15, 16x18 (left of snare), 18x19 (not pictured). Enjoy... I'm hoping to get the room ready for playing in a few weeks.

No i used a veneer from someone on the site who would like to remain annonymous. I then used heat lock veneering glue and liked working with it very much. Also i'm not using that middle lug on the batter side and i have no tuning issues at all. I could notch it out but since there are no issues with it i just left it.

Good luck, Gary.

1. What is heat lock veneering glue?
2. Why, not who, would someone wish to remain anonymous regarding veneer? Well, come to think of it, who wants to remain anonymous regarding veneer? :?
