I'm sure it can be brought back, but the price would be steep, depending on how advanced the corrosion. The entire notion of coating metal in clear paint to prevent corrosion repels me; if the drum is used, it can't hold up. Particularly bad are the rims and other mounted bits that get bumped and have sharp edges.

My opinion of the drum is kind of a mix of admirations for its size and silliness, but If I wanted such a drum (which I don't because of its sonic character and unreliable aesthetic), I'd chemically patinate the metal to passivate (stop corrosion) it.

Justin I heard those snares sound like crap, but I've never played one. I remember Joep restored one a few years ago and it cost him a lot, but he still has it.

Its not as green as those pics depict. Look at the second and third ones with better lighting.

Yes, this drum could and should be saved. The cost to do so would probably bring the price up to par with the sale price of drums in better shape... If someone just wants the sound, it would be worth it.

For the record, I like my 590...

It's been my experience, unless Sonor does the restore, it's a wasted venture.
I sent mine to Sonor back in the day and it came back as if it were the day it was born. They didn't charge me a lot either. In those days things were easy, I think they felt obligated. Not something I would attempt today and pretty sure you would get laughed at for asking.

I doubt it's green at all. As long as there is one shred of lacquer left on that shell, it wouldn't have gone green, but I wanted to say something vaguely disrespectful about the sale and the photographic effort.
