Here ya go Greg, starting with the last one I built:

7 x14 segmented zebrawood. Black Chrome hardware, die cast hoops....

The pics are form the customer. I told him he should have wiped the fingerprints off before snapping the pics. He said, "Fingerprints! That's drool my friend!" So I guess it's ok...

Few more outside, pre gloss finish:

The ribbon was a white and black zebra pattern. I thought it would look good to color the white with a brown marker to match the drum. the brown turned purple...

Nice work, Dave! The alignment of the figure on all those different pieces would have paralyzed me for days.

Hard to judge on the finish preference because the lighting is so different, although I know which I would choose. You lathe turned it?

Gorgeous.
So you had to take that all back apart to hi-gloss it?

Thanks guys.

Gregory, the figuring of the wood was a natural occurrence. I only had a little influence. the drums are constructed just like a segmented bowl. Six strips of wood, cut angles, glue in ring. Stack and glue rings, then turn on lathe....

Kelly, yes, I did take it all apart to put a couple coats of gloss on there. Its a long story, but I had a deadline that needed to be met for a contest. After the contest, I was able to take it back apart and finish it the way it was intended.

I prefer the gloss. Satin finishes look "unfinished" to me. Like someone got lazy and didn't complete the job...

I'll look for some pics of the build and more drums I've built....

That's what I mean. I would have thought about placement it for several days and nights.
