Thoughts, prayers and well wishes today Cliff as you bring Charlie to the doc.
Let us know what the outcome is.
The girl I raised from a few weeks old and spent 12 years with was one of my life's greatest pleasures.
I know you are completely focused on getting him fixed up. Praying for a brand new Charlie to emerge physically.
But hoping his goofy personality remains intact..

Charlie seems to me a pretty young dog at heart, and so he has reasonable expectation of doing well. I join my prayers with Kelly's, and look forward to hearing how the operation went.

Today we learned that while the hips are not good, they are not the cause of the difficulty Charlie has been having lately.

The doctor says spinal problem, which may be good news, as some issues are very operable, with good results. Some possibilities are not such good news.

Charlie will have an MRI tomorrow to get clear definition of the problem and clearer diagnosis and prognosis. We will know more on Friday, after the doctor has seen the images.

Thanks to Kelly and all for the concern and support.

Sorry to hear this Cliff... :(

I know that Charlie is an old friend, and as with all beings, aging seems to be an irreversible process...
It's great news that doctors say there's hope and solution. Let's pray and hope for the best!!!

In the mean time Cliff send my regards to Charlie and hopes for the speediest recovery...

Charlie spent the day at the vet's yesterday.

Put under anesthesia and a complete MRI of his spine.

Expect to hear from the doctor today with what the images show.

The results we got today were probably about as good an outcome as we could hope for.

Charlie has a spinal embolism which has done some permanent damage, but physical therapy should eventually restore most of the control of his hind legs, and mobility. The originally discovered problem of hip dysplasia continues to exist, but is not the cause of what we had been seeing recently – it is just the first thing that was evident when we started looking.

We need to ‘peel the onion’, in a manner of speaking, and deal with this issue to see what the remaining impact of the hip problem is, after the spine / nerve issue improves.

Dealing with the hip issue now would be counter-productive, because his inability to control his hind legs would likely cause him to damage any hip prosthetics.

A couple of months of physical therapy ahead; then a re-evaluation. We are happy that we seem to have a path to help and keep Charlie a while longer. ;)

Thanks from all of us to all of you that have shown concern and showed support.
