A lot of my consternation was the 1st Gen Designer stand too. I don't have the words to describe how much I disliked that thing.
Which is probably why the second generation stand was reverted to the Signature prism block. The Signature stand itself is no good, because 1) the legs are static; heavy toms require a leg under the center of gravity of each drum to be stable, and 2) the bottom clamp is too high. The second generation Designer stand solves both of those problems, while retaining the solidity of the prism.

If an 18 is desired, no kind of 14 or 16 is going to suffice.

I missed my old kit something fierce and the maple lights brought them home with a certainty. That rambunctious rambling was my, admittedly ragged, attempt to go through my reasoning.
Get it out any way you can, no embarrassment there! :P

Thanks, Tim. I received notice that the kit shipped out today and should be on my doorstep late next week.[Where's the emoticon for me chewing on my fingers in anticipation?!!  ].
