Listened to the JD's again and love those. Man, the hats! The crashes are bizarre I remember but love the sound on a recording.

Hey Lane,

The Dirll china is an 18". It is pretty soft.

Those hats are indeed something special. They were recorded with just the overheads; no close mic on them.

Are you out this way again any time soon? I'll bring the whole set if you want to use them while you're in town.

If you can come up with any information on the 18" JD China, let me know, or if you can broker something, even better.

Is that Encore 20" something you are currently using, or something that you are willing to sell?

can't open that file for some reason...

Hey Nick,

What are you trying to play it with? I am using windows media player, and I think Greg has been able to play it on a apple machine with something.

Would it be any easier if I cut a .wav file and sent you a link?

Sorry I overlooked this question before.

All tom heads in both clips are G1 clear; tensioned the same batter and resonant.

Sizes & tuning on the DeJohnette cymbal clip:

• 8x8 RT -- Eb
• 12x10 RT -- Bb
• 14x14 FT -- G
• 16x16 FT -- Eb
• 18x16 kick

Sizes & tuning on the Diril cymbal clip:

• 8x8 RT -- G -- 74
• 12x10 RT -- C -- 75
• 14x14 FT -- G -- 74
• 16x16 FT -- C -- 70.5
• 18x16 kick

I'll get the Eb tuning readings and re-edit later; don't recall them off the top of my head.

Are you using your Signature or Designer kit on the recordings? Could you translate to drum dial settings? Thanks.

Both of these recordings are the bubinga Designers. Post below edited to add the c/g/c/g drumdial readings; will get the others soon.

Ah it worked this time, yeah really nice, cymbals and playing!
The hats sounds very cool and I love the almost orchestral sound of all the cymbals together (by orchestral I mean something that you may hear in a Verese recital) I almost picked up some Encore hats the other day but think I would've been disappointed with those.

Dang... thought I was a classical music fan but don't know who or what Verese is. :(

Thanks, Nick. Glad you were able to get it to play.

As I think about it, these cymbals share a lot with Signatures in terms of design intent.

Being very dry, they are considerbly more focused on the fundamental, like Signatures, and they tend to produce more of a distinct pitch than most other cymbals. That clarity of pitch does make the 'orchestral' definition fit.
