Marta and I saw two latin jazz greats:
MICHEL CAMILO
GIOVANNI HIDALGO

They performed on the Ohrid Summer Festival, some 150miles from Skopje, so it really was a chance we would regret for the rest of our lives.

They performed as a duet - and it was like 5 musicians were playing.
The sound was phenomenal - their playing was divine. Giovanni's energy is beyond everything I've seen with my own eyes, and Michel's virtuosity is unmatchable...

A night to remember for a long long time... :D :D :D

Pictures later, when I download them from the camera...

Very cool. Glad you got to go and enjoy it. ;)

I know Hildalgo, but I need to research Camilo a bit.

Hey Goki,

Thanks for saving me some research time.

Pretty good performance with a full band, too.
;)

Must have been a great evening, Goki. Both those guys are loaded with energy, not to mention ability.

Indeed Gregory - a stage in front of a cathedral built in the 11th century.
The acoustics is divine, and the whole place just enlightens the musicians.
Usually, it's a place where classical concerts are performed.

The inside of the cathedral is magnificent as well - both acoustically and visually...

Too bad it suffered harsh times - it was destroyed in wars, turned into a mosque (all the frescoes covered with molter and bell tower destroyed), even turned into a military gunpowder storage. Lucky for us, it didn't have the same faith as the Acropolis...

All in all - a fantastic place where one can experience spiritual enlightenment... :geek:

The front of the church:

The back, where a small amphitheater is built to house cultural events...

Don't know whether I should upload some video clips... What do You guys think?!?

For those of you that dug Cliff Almond's playing on the clip Goki sent, here is a great free lesson from him. Very cool exercise around the kit:
