It seems likes everything has an ebb and flow, and this past year has had me more involved in racing than drums, but I am still most grateful that the friends here show up both here and offline, and make the difference that that do in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is warm (well, surely Jeff is) and safe. The world is crazy, but we have much to be grateful for.

Well obviously we don't celebrate it in the UK by of course happy Thanksgiving to you all in the US!
Speaking of the US, I really enjoyed my trip to Seattle this year, am thinking of taking a driving holiday along route 101 next year, either from Seattle to LA or the other way round, anyone done this, recommendations etc?

I've done most of it with the exception of the Olympic Peninsula, which I hear is beautiful. In fact, I used to live by 101 in California for a couple of years, south of San Franscisco; that part of the road is okay, but you really want to get on Rt 1 which hugs the coast through Monterey and Carmel. Above San Fran the same is true.

North to south, south to north makes little difference. It will look different which ever way you go. I haven't done it 40 in years, so like most things, it's probably not quite as nice as I remember it. However, the Northwest coast is so unfriendly (cold water, chilly weather all summer long) that it remains relatively empty.

The best time would probably be in October, when in the Northwest the land and sea temperatures stop fighting each other for a brief spell, when California is not too hot, and when all the tourists who have children have gone home. And avoid driving, if you can, on weekends, unless you like being in a line of cars.

Thanks Greg, lots of great info there... We'd be doing it in May if we do go for it...

Anything but June through August, if you can avoid it.

Yes, school holidays, families on vacation, lines of cars and motor homes.

Three weeks should be more than adequate to do it in a very relaxed fashion.
