Shells I have been experimenting with:
Thin 6.7mm, thin 6.7mm with re-rings and thick, almost a half inch shell.
So far my favorite is the plain thin.
These are all 10 x 10.

Hey Kelly,

Please expand on the comparison observations.

It plays out exactly how you would think.
1)Thick shell:
strong meaty thump, very short decay, aka Signature sound.
2)Thin shell with re-rings: short, loud aggressive thump, some decay, cuts off quick, aka Premier Signia's.
3)Thin shell: Softer, more gentle sounding, not as loud, still full, lively resonance, aka Designers

My gut tells me, If I tried all these with a 10x9 and not a 10x10, all 3 would improve. I think greatly.

Does this make sense to you?

Hey Kelly,

As to 1-3, it is, as you say, what one would expect. Always nice when the chance arises to test 'common knowledge'.

No sure I have a clear idea why the 10x9 would be better.

I believe it would shave off some of the ''Thickness" and balance out the sound more. All 3 are noticeably on the fat side. Which is expected from a square size

This place Jeff.
The shells are pretty nice and look to be vertical grain on the outside. I like that look. Horizontal bugs my eyes.
I wanted to stay away from Keller shells. They are just too common.
Keller has some Vertical grain birch shells which looked interesting but they won't make an 8 tom. Go figure.

They are really easy to talk to and might do sizes not listed. I will find out soon enough when I started asking for some off sizes.
