Hey Goki,

Lots of good suggestions here, but the most productive approach might be to get the best possible theroetical understanding of 'what does what', in terms of head selection, tuning, etc., and apply that to move from your benchmark to your target.

A great source of theory is Scott Johnson's 'Tuning Bible'.

Anything else I would say would only be trying to influence your sound rather than helping you develop it.

2nd that. I've had it bookmarked for some time. However, it can make your head spin! :ugeek:
I like the section titled, "Gauges/Dials as opposed to keys"... Which could be sub-titled, "Don't bother with 'em".

It makes your head spin because he writes poorly. He needs an editor!

What I copied from him and posted above is altered from the original for clarity.

Thanks Cliff - I'll start reading later tonight... :)

Thanks to all of You guys for helping out - back where I come from, I have to relly on other people's experience concerning drum gear...
No shop in my country wants to give 10.000euro in advance for several cymbal sets and 4 decent drumsets... :(

+1 on the tuning bible, it helps in some weird situations (like tuning 5 lug drums)

Goki I guess the only advice I have is to check out some aquarian heads, they are a little heavier single ply and last forever. I find they don't ring as much as coated ambs.

No chance of anything different than Remo or Evans...

Remo is expensive - Evans is even worse.. :S

I don't know if this will help. But I just started using CS Black Dots top and bottom of my Tom Toms with great success. Same head combo top and bottom does produce more resonance, as Gregory suggested.
