It has to be nearly 18 months since Goki first sent me a note to look into Ibrahim Diril cymbals. Since then, I have soaked up every sound clip, review, etc., that I could find, and exchanged correspondence with the principal himself.

Today I had a lengthy conversation with the US distributor, headed by a gentleman by the name of Sutton Riggs, and I am in the final steps to assembling an order for a complete set of cymbals. Sutton is a drummer himself, and seems truly to be an enthusiast, not a 'salesman'. He has, so far, been very helpful in getting me what I want, and not trying to get me to 'want what he has'.

You guys know that I am pretty particular in regards to sounds, and I am pretty excited about finally getting a set of Diril's that are exactly what I want. I am looking at the 'AD' line.

I have no vested interest in anything to do with Diril or their distribution, but I do think that these cymbals are going to become treasures, and that they are currently very undervalued.

Take a look at the Diril Cymbals - craftsman's website, and, their U.S. distributor's website.

If everything comes together well, I'll pick up my set on my annual holiday trip to CT/NY, and you know there will be clips up here not long afterwards.
;)

You guys are having too much fun. But just let's make this clear: If I change my name, you can't change my cymbals!

Very nice, Cliff. Can't wait to hear how the new set stacks up. All these Turkish cymbals on the market now are just splendid. This is the golden age of cymbals, as I see it. Diril's trying to break into the market, so the price is most agreeable compared to Istanbul or Bosphorus.

I just got confirmation today that a set of AD series Ibrahim Diril cymbals are being made for me, and expected to ship soon:

• 20” flat ride
• 20” ride
• 18” china
• 17” crash
• 16” crash
• 10” splash
• 14” high hats

This should be interesting.

Plan is to record them immediately, and then to record them in 3 months or so, after they have been 'played in' a bit, to see how much the sound changes after the tension has released a bit.

Once before I had the chance to do something of an A/B comparison, but not quite as scientific.

A set of NOS 14” K high hats that Goki acquired passed through my hands en route to him. Both top and bottom were within a few serial numbers of the K high hats that I had played for about ten years, at the time, and the weights were remarkably close. It was very noticeable that mine felt and sounded more ‘relaxed’ than Goki’s. I imagine that his have now ‘played in’ a bit, but I suspect that the change happens so gradually that it may be difficult to observe without an A/B comparison.

Goki, what have you noticed, if anything, with your K hats?

Unfortunately Cliff - I haven't noticed anything BIG...
Well, maybe a very small change in the sound towards a more mellower tone -but it might be my way of playing those hats...

Anyway - Your idea for a recording is spot on... I'd do that every month if I had the equipment... :)
Good luck with the wait - the setup You chose is phenomenal...
