I signed on to post JB-weld before I read your last post Goki. It is what I would try.
But from the sounds of it, you are always going to feel like the drum is wounded. I'm sure I would. I think I would just look for another hoop.

Seeming right is a relative thing. I would have felt that way too, until I got my Lite snare. The top hoop is 3mm thick, and has the effect of a die cast hoop on the sound. The lower hoop is less than 2mm thick, and it is clearly the result of strategic thinking on gaining the best combination of snare sound and feel.

Anyway, I am sorry that your hoop arrived broken. It is the kind of thing that, even if it did not matter, would still matter. Broken expectations hurt.

Is there an European substitute for this one?!?

I know of no Euro sub. I don't know if it will work for your application. If you try, the best bet would be to stress your hoop so that the crack is open when you apply the glue, rather than trying to glue it in a closed, original format. Allow it to remain in the stressed position until the epoxy sets up, in order that the forces are pushing on the repair, rather than pulling away, when the drum is tensioned.

That's what I thought too Greg - applying the glue (or whatever) when the hoop is in full stress...
I don't mind the visible line, I just need something that will prevent this hoop from further damage...
I'll just put a piece of tape on all 4 corners, and cover the "aesthetic moment"... :D

And another thing - regarding the DrumDial...
I've tried with an 80 on bottom and 85 on top. But, it was almost impossible to achieve the numbers!!! The bottom head is really TIGHT...
Does this have anything to do with the diecast hoops?!? Do they make more tension?!?
I didn't understand that part...

As I said Greg - Brian did a TOP job packing the box... Absolutely TOP... As always, he was extra cautious...

I think part of the damage was done at the customs office, when a jerk dropped the hoop when it was out of the box (they're so clumsy - for example, they always open the box from the bottom side, with a KNIFE), and part was my fault, while I tried to strengthen with my hand (although I didn't use much force, and stopped when I saw there was no effect). That, combined with the tension of the snare bed, resulted in that CRACK-SNAP sound I heard...

As I said - it was meant to be... Right now, all my efforts are focused on finding a good 2 component epoxy that will prevent further damage of the hoop...

I think that DD 80 is way too high for a snare reso head.

I usually end up around 74 or so for snare reso tension.

85 might be a little loose for the batter, for my preference anyway.

Same.

That one depends on the drum. 88 is good for crispness up top on my maple light Designer, but is way too tight for the maple heavy and sounds dinky up there, and sounds better at 85. The Lite also responds well to 85 on the batter.

Well, I went to Salonika (Greece) this weekend, to get epoxy (JB-Weld) and Remo Coated Emperors...

Mission - complete disaster. JB is nowhere to be found, and only a 14" coated emperor after 6 shops...

But, I've found BISON epoxy back here ($8)... Anyone tried this before?!?

I hope I'll be able to test the epoxy idea THIS Sunday...
