On drums...

I'll take the liberty of paraphrasing something Kelly once said, which was, 'It's about drums I love, not about a company I love'.

I am interested in the (i) company's overall business prospects, and, (ii) the product lines that are, per se, irrelevant to me, only to the extent that the foregoing (a) enhance, or, (b) preclude the company's ability to produce products that I am interested in.

Don't care about Fiats, unless they adequately subsidize the availability of a Ferrari.

In a few years, I see all this as a muted subject anyway. Tell someone at that point that you are playing Sonor Designers when they ask and you will get a reply like this: "scratches head ...Sonor...hmmm...weren't they big in the 50's?"

I hope they do well with them. I feel like the only way they are really going to bump up their market share in the US is to expand their endorser base and advertising. When I was coming up Sonor was the drum of choice for most of the top drummers and they had really high visibility in the trade magazines.
Get that back and people will start buying more high end drums, not chinese phonics..

Could well be. But the musical world is so fractured, and who is going to be the carrier of that kind of sales clout? Not a lot of Krupas out there, no matter how many may be better drummers. None of my young-day heros played Sonor, and when I did find out who played them, I didn't know their names. How is Danny Carey going for 'em?

The attraction to me was beautifully made drums and hardware. Guess I'd make a terrible marketer.

Tim is right, but, as usual, Yamaha and DW steal the show when it comes to top drummers (in bands). And then we have Tama, Mapex and Pearl. Sonor is really between the last on the list.

What helps them a lot is the Percussion and school instrument sale, in Europe. I think they're unmatched there, just like Meinl...


We'll see what will happen... I just hope they won't change the 18" S Classix bass drum in walnut roots...

One might develop an interest in Fiat if they were suddenly badged Ferrari.

I was looking through ebay Sonor Signature listings the other day, only to discover there are almost no Signature listings, but a lot of stuff bearing the Signature name.
