Anti-war themed...my cup of tea.

I fell to thinking about anti-war themes, and got no further. I don't know why the genre doesn't speak to me, because neither I nor anyone I know likes war, and because we would all like it to be a different world in which one man did not need to defend himself from yet another man with a tyrannical idea.

Folk who go about having bad things to say about war always seem to be lecturing, as if they were the first to discover the trouble with it. One might just as well gather in groups to sing songs about the unpleasantness of the bowel movement, hoping to make life more noble and pleasant, thereby.

Or am I missing something? :?

Greg,

I see your point...to each his own, I guess.

Having spent 5 years in the Marine Corps, I relate to and get to express some of the frustrations from my personal experience through this music though.

To be sure. I forgot to add that no sane person who has been in war likes it, either. ;) For whatever reason you served, thanks for your service, Justin.

Same here Justin. It's something I never did so it brings about the deepest respect and admiration from me.
I salute you. You guys are the true heroes.

Maybe like Greg, the Anti war theme brings about thoughts and pictures in my head of muscians that became heroes singing about hating war and how wrong it is while the real hereos were far from home, in unspeakable conditions, risking their lives so they could do that very thing.

Kel,

I totally agree. It's important to remember that this is only one aspect of this band's much larger persona. Most of their earlier stuff deals with "deeper," personal issues... Not that war isn't deep but writing music about relevant struggles to the artist(s) always comes off as more sincere.

Thanks for your support as well!

Yes sir. I hope you know that I was not thinking of this band when I made my comment. I can appreciate good muscians these days and not really care what their message is. Though some things are offensive to me and you wouldn't find their disc on my shelf. Marilyn Manson comes to mind. And that punk rap guy I can't think of his name right now. But that list can go on forever. Oh..eminem?? Anti-war seems harmless these days with these raunchy people. At least the anti-war folks had a purpose and belief.
I grew up in the 70's when the folks from the 60's were still very vocal. "Peace, not war". Smoke dope instead 8-)
The difference is, back then I thought it was important what people thought. As I got older, I realized there were just too many people with too many far out ideas for me to be concerned about.
