When I asked what are they thinking about, it was in the same sense of when a woman  drives off with the petrol nozzle still in the car. Not literally asking what she was thinking about, because it might have been her makeup. I don't know.

Ah, you were asking about female jazz drummers.

Imitating "being cool" is generic: jazz is cool, so playing ding ding uh ding ding uh ding is cool, and fairly hilarious, but what makes it meaningful, against what used to render it sounding like a lame chicken, is keeping the accent off the skipped beat, as Ron stated.

You mean you knew the answer, all along?!

Don't you have any work to do? :D

I'm fooling them today, too. ;)

Fantastic Topic guys...

...Jazz (at least from my point of view) is VERY hard to imitate. If you don't have the feel, forget about it. My left arm is still very stiff, because of lack of professional approach to the drums, and playing more rock and blues then needed. But, listening is what made me LOVE jazz and wanting to try and play it. I'm far from being a good jazz drummer, but the swing feel is reflected in my playing, and I'm very proud of that.

If You like to play jazz, it's best that You sit behind the drum set and close your eyes. Don't think - just listen to what the others are playing and let your feelings guide you. The music will flow inside You, making Your hands move in the right motion...
I got endless comments about my simplicity when playing, even hard stuff. And it's all thanx to that approach. I play 50% less when my mind is in a different place... :(

Ah, I almost forgot - I bought a Designer set yesterday... ;)

   Happy April 1st...

Great, response, Goki. I had a dream many years ago; I had paid, somehow, for a half hour of Charlie Watts's time, and after twenty-five minutes suddenly realized I had only been wasting his and my time. I asked him, what do you think about when you're playing?

He said, "I do what I do, and then I do more of it." I said, that's funny because most people would probably say you do less. And he said, "That's just what it looks like."

Greg, was there something particular that raised the opening question in you?

Yeah; listening to jazz drummers.

Let me see... most of them, I think, with the exception of those you can hardly hear. I know they're just trying to catch a nap and be paid for it.

At least rock drumming is easy to understand.
It embodies, with a few exceptions, inane, monotonous rhythmic patterns played with mind-numbing repetitivity at a volume injurious to hearing, with occasional demonstrations of technical agility empty of musical content... performed to serve a musical genre consisting of banal melodies built on inanely simple harmonic structures, performed by silly, posturing musician manques in a state of arrested adolescent development.
One snarky attitude deserves another. :o

Nope. No snarking on my part.
