What if we did all have the same opinions?

Thanks heaps Cliff for the conversation and advice. It is retuned but I have yet to put it on the kit. I am waiting for a time that I am not sacrificing Dawn and Kate time. I played A LOT over the weekend and want to give them a little break.
This snare has all the makings to be a dynamite instrument. It completely caught me off guard Saturday. As if to say "if you are not going to be serious about me, I am not going to be serious about you. pfft".
I'm picking myself up and wiping off the dust from an ass kicking. I hear the bell for round two.


Should note for those that were not on the phone: Top head was between 85 and 88 on the drum dial. In between the last few songs I flipped it over and starting cranking the reso up, a few times. It ended around 88 and of course choked the crap out of the drum. It's now at 74, batter is at 87 per Cliffs advice, this is a good place to start over.

I should note....when I switched the snare wires one of the attachment strings on one side got to short. In tuning and messing with the snare tension while the drum was on the kit, I didn't realize one side of the snare wire got pulled up onto the bearing edge.

Not sure how the wires would effect things, but the 88 reso must have been like wearing childrens' underwear

It was a little too fat sounding for me but bringing the batter up to 88 fixed that.
I'll be spending some extended time on it tomorrow and will keep you posted.
Snare has got a lot of body. A thick shelled guy would love to have this.
I'm reminded of my SQ2 14 x 7 medium birch. What a great snare that was.

Well....thanks to Greg's idea, this thing is coming alive. I cut 7 strands out of the center of the snare wires. Much much better. He told me 8, when I get the nerve up I'll do one more
No kidding though, major major improvement.

Try just cutting a half strand first. You don't want to go overboard all at once.
