On drums...

I don't know the difference. I like the Rosewood on my SQ2. I tried the Fiberskin Ambassador and Diplomats on snare and toms, they're way too warm for my tastes. I did like the Fiberskin Diplomat on snare.

A fantastic set, Gary. And a great conversion.

The most beautiful part in the conversion is that you can use the third leg bracket for an old-style cymbal holder...

Yes Goki, that is my intension. I kind of set up the kit in a hurry one day and never took it down. It's even in my 16 year old daughter's room while she is in FL. I'm going to have to relocate it soon when she comes up for christmas.

Roland, the conversion has been a painstaking journey. I started out using the original triple flange hoops and decide to go all the way with hoops and bass heads. I use non-original claws due to length problems and original sonor 3.5" slotted rods. I then veneered the hoops to match my shell and a gibraltar riser. Phonic legs and all original prisms from the floor tom. No extra holes and hoops will be transfered to the original bd if i ever come across one!!

Came back here to admire. What rods did you use on the bass? T-handles are annoying when handling and bagging the drum.

As to princess in monster suits, I've had several episodes along those lines.

Thanks Gregory, It was a challenge. I used raw veneer, no paper backer which made it a little more difficult to work with. I placed the seams center of the lugs and the came out pretty much invisible. Unfortunatly it did split in a few spots which i had to fill but i was able to blend theose in with the grain and color of the veneer and sanded smoothly. It is slightly darker than my bop kit but i expect over time it will fade down a bit.

BTW i used that Heat Lock as an adhesive, that stuff really holds tight!

The "it" that is slightly darker than your bop kit refers to what? The bass?

Oh, the phonic plus snare drum that i just veneered.

Here are my phonic snares all together, left to right, d515, d518x, d516


in person the new veneer is almost a perfect match to the original d515 shade while the d516 is a perfect match to the bop kit veneer.

Isn't it a little early for us to be up on a saturday?!!
