Damn Gregory good answer! :)

I would assume the 600 series would be cheaper to produce having less materials involved and literally is identical in every way apart from the length of shaft and design of the tightening screw. I have issues with some of the 400/600 series items as I simply do not see the money in the 600 series in comparison. If you are paying SQ2 prices why should the designer series hardware not been improved on instead of getting obsessed with using as little metal as possible? Don't get me wrong I will say it again I love my SQ2's the way they are and are the most incredible drums I will ever own BUT now using them alongside the designers I just prefer the designer hardware and build quality. I may even one day pick up a few 400 series tom holders and stop moaning!

Exactly how I felt Ron. Never got along with SQ2 mounts.

As an experiment last year. I took the toms of my SQ 2 bass drum and left the track mount there. I found the sound to be quite dull, with very low end. When I placed the toms and holder back on the track mount, my bass drum came to life again! That goes against what drum purists have been saying for the last 20 years. I don't know why. :o

That's really interesting to hear! Hmm I can't wait to try it out and see for myself. Now just to find those elusive tom arms!!!

Missing critical information. Any drum in the vicinity of another drum will vibrate sympathetically. If you remove your toms, you will miss their sympathetic response. Were your toms in their usual position but hung on different stands, or were they simply removed to hear the bass?

They were completely removed from the drum, no stands. Interest point Gregory. I might try the experiment again, but I'm too lazy.
