Thanks guys.

Gregory, the figuring of the wood was a natural occurrence. I only had a little influence. the drums are constructed just like a segmented bowl. Six strips of wood, cut angles, glue in ring. Stack and glue rings, then turn on lathe....

I'll look for some pics of the build and more drums I've built....

I get it. The figure is revealed as the glued up block is lathed. So let's see, six pieces around, so 60º angle cuts? Or half that, because each piece gets half? Nice fat lathe to turn them. How long a throw?

Post more pics, great idea!

Um...I had no idea there was a genius among us. And a humble one at that.
What are you doing now, are you taking any part in drum building?

Far cry from genius, but thank you.

I still build, repair, etc. I just don't have enough time. In fact, I am 3 drums behind in building, 2 drums behind in repairs, and I have around 10 snares that I am going to build out for myself...... eventually.

Oh yeah, just a bought a lathe to turn all of this stuff on... :D

Holy Smokes! I know you said you built drums, but there are people who say things like that and they mean they've built one. Very impressive, Dave.
