Wow, this is horrible. We were just talking about Dennis Stauffer the other day and it seems as though he was just involved in a fatal car accident. Ugh... he was very a very talented drum maker.

Blink of an eye. Always shocking in a young man, and in one with a young child, tragic. It can make even life seem senseless, though logically that's backward. It is death, clearly, that makes no sense.

ugh, that sucks, he had some serious talent.

Greg I missed the opening to this, are you looking for a new kit by a small maker? I have heard the canopus in person and they are great drums.
I think GMS is among the best made, they really have it down after 20 years, and they machine their own hardware. I have not heard a bad drum from them.
Noble and cooley are great as well.

Are you dumping a kit for a new one?

Goki opened this line of discussion. The seminal thread is back here., quoted in my response to Goki.

I am not in the market for new drums, although it is always a pleasant hypothetical possibility. I am happy with what I have and need only to learn how to play. Still, I am illiterate about what's out there and hoping to learn more, and some day I might be able to commission a bespoke kit. :D

I'm hoping Goki will develop his great idea. :) :) :)

This is horrible. Besides Email, I got to see Dennis at the Chicago show most years. He was truly one man who was making it building drums. He was also so nice and genuine that when you asked him something, he would always try to answer and encourage you to build your own drum instead of buying one of his.

For some reason his passing has bothered me. I won't say we were friends or even close, but he had a way of making you feel that way, even if we only talked once a year in Chicago...

I've kept meaning to update this or mention it, but somehow I get sidetracked..
