Hope you guys don't mind.

On January 18, 2012, Dennis J. Stauffer, owner of Phattie Drums and the Stauffer family of percussion products, was killed in a car crash near his home in Asheville, NC.

Along with our good friends and fellow drum-industry colleagues from the Ghostnote Drumbuilders' Collective and in partnership with the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, we have organized the "Love Your Drums" fundraiser to raise money for Dennis' wife and infant son, as well as to honor his legacy and his contributions to the custom drumbuilding world.

To that end, a number of Dennis' friends and colleagues from Ghostnote have built the staggering array of drums and drumkits you see below. All told, nearly 40 snare drums and three full drumkits worth approximately $30,000 have been committed to the initiative, all 100% custom-built by some of the most skilled and accomplished drum builders in the world.

For every $10 you donate, you will receive one entry into a drawing for these drums. Multiples of $10 will receive multiple entries. The drums will be given away on May 20, 2012 in a random drawing that will be conducted at the 2012 Chicago Drum Show.

Some really nice stuff being given away.

I sure don't mind. What a collection of builders, although I've only heard of one of them... can't remember where.... ;)

The giveaway happened at the Chicago vintage and custom Drum show on the weekend of the 19th. We were able to raise almost $20, 000 for the Stauffer family. Not bad for a bunch of unknown builders.

Here is what I ended up donating... 7 x 14 walnut with maple stripes...

That's a beaut, Dave!

I forswore heading down to the meet, because if I saw something I wanted, all I could do about it is drool and that's just not attractive.

Thanks Gregory. Not my favorite build, but my original plan had to be scrapped at the last minute and I had to slap this one together in a week. The walnut is from 3 different sources, so it varies in color quite a bit. Not bad for leftover scraps..lol.

Thanks again and if anyone donated... a big thank you!
