At long last picked up a DeJohnette mark 1 ride 22" - the bell and riding tip of the stick sound great, a bit clangy if you lay the shoulder of the stick in to crash it but really liking it...

Congratulations on the score. As you know, I have the original JD series ride in 20”, and most of the other first series pieces. It does definitely take a little time to learn how they want to be played.

I really like the dark, warm, lush sound of the whole series, but over time it became apparent to me that the crashes, and crashing on the ride need to be at a little higher volume than I want to be playing to get them to open up. There are some situations where a little more volume is ok, and they really excel there.

Getting that sound at a little lower volume was the design objective of the set of Dirils that I was able to have made, and they have become a my ‘A ‘ cymbals these days.

I hope you enjoy the JD as much as I do none.

It’s been a while: good to see you here.

If those last two on the previous page were mine, they would be made into posters hanging on my wall. Really neat pics.
They have "story" written all over them.

Thanks Kelly.
Yeah Cliff I remember discussing them with you before, it seems to be a tough series to track down but very different and exciting, definitely more so than what i've heard of the newer ones. What is really cool is they don't dominate volume wise, you can get lots of notes going without any build up.
I can't say enough about the Aquarian DeJohnette heads on a snare, really loving the sound.
I do stop by quite regularly here but it's always as i'm on my way out, or so it seems, hence no recent posts...

I understand it is real leather, the old seat was some black plastic stuff Gibraltar brand that had cracked / falling apart, I have an upholsterer friend who had some spare after redoing a chair and he did it - replacing the foam too, i think he's done a great job, and it feels satisfying not to have just bought another seat top. :D
