I was wondering why reference to the photo brought no sign of recognition. It's always great talking with you; somehow I always end up learning a ton, as you and I seem to be on a similar trajectory, but you are farther along on the arc.
For instance, I have been setting up the drums, whenever possible, on stage right for about six or seven years now. I thought I was being rather eccentric, but I wanted to be able to see the faces and hands of the other players. Talking to you, I discover that's standard in jazz circles (duh, I might have thought about that), but that the piano placement, when using a grand, dictates a stage left kit.
We had a last minute grand on stage, a request from the host of the party. So it was rolled out behind me, too late to move me and everyone else, amps, mics and cords, in reverse order across the stage. From now on, I'll set up stage left without thinking.
