soon my Lite kit will have DeJohnette heads all round (not tom resos though), it's going to look and sound killer! I have a bass drum head already, well two actually, one is on the reso side, but I'm going to stick with the coated PS3 as batter as this drum already sounds monstrous, felt strip on both sides.
I've also been playing this kit with a 10, 12, 14 setup recently with the 10 and 12 mounted on the BD!!! I haven't done this in years but am enjoying the feel of it (typically I haven't ordered a 12" DJ head as wasn't sure about this configuration but might just have to fork out another £16 on one - yes you heard that right nearly $27 for a head...they fleece us rotten here in the UK)
I'll take some pics when it's done.

To my ear, it's pretty hard to beat a PS3 on a birch kick. I like the "attackier" Evans on maple but it's too much attack for birch.

Someday I'd like to try the JD heads; in a vacuum they overly mute the drums for my taste, but in a musical setting I might like them a lot. But then, there are so many heads to try. Black heads do look quite stunning on light colored drums.

Honestly on a snare they are incredible, I had an old one and tried it on a 14 tom higher tuning and I just know the whole kit will sound incredible, I like the bass drum batter too but prefer a little more low end that the PS3 provides, have one on the Designer too.
The DeJohnettes are a little dryer but still with plenty of tone and brushes love them - I swear the swish is twice as loud compared to coated Ambassadors

well here's a shot of the kit with DeJohnette heads, I don't usually use this many toms but tuned a bit higher they are very melodic and am really enjoying the possibilities!

Very nice set of drums right there. Glad to hear your new heads are working for you so well :)

Hey Nick,

There is just such a nice 'roots' feel about getting behind a four piece kit, eh?
;)

yes Cliff definitely, I suppose one doesn't really need more but I must say I prefer a 5 piece set and a few more cymbal sounds :P

So latest set up, I tried the DeJohnette heads on all batters (and reso on bass drum)...couldn't get the bass drum to work though, tuned up and down, really annoying as looked very cool, so PS3 coated back on and immediately sounds awesome, and feels very nice to play too. Going to record on these on the 10th so will be able to let you guys hear them!
