Looks like 14s are still the most popular size, wonder why this is?

For one thing, the smaller your target, the harder it is to hit it. For another, the hat stand's position is dictated in part by the width of the cymbal. Leaving practical matters aside, as cymbals get smaller they become more controllable and perhaps more crisp, but they also lose breath or lushness.

It seems like there has been a trend to go bigger in drums and cymbals, at least for pop and rock, recently. I saw a video of the drummer for John Mayer playing two 16" crash cymbals for hi-hats. And drum companies seem to be making a lot of 24" bass drums again.

I personally don't like the modern recording of hi-hats which seems to focus exclusively on high frequencies. I prefer the more full/dark "chick" of a John Bonham or Stewart Copeland track. For me, 13" cymbals just don't have enough "oomph" for live loud playing. But then again I don't have a pro sound guy miking all my cymbals and giving me a great mix of them back in my monitors at most gigs either! So I'm relying on the acoustic stage volume. ;)

Yes Phat, I think that's Steve Jordan, he's being using them a while I think, great sound though.
I'm trying to track down some Master Vintage to try out you'll be pleased to hear Greg, but it's amazing how many shops sell but don't stock cymbals (because the supplier won't accept them back apparently!!!)
Also, Cliff are you aware of the Murat Diril cymbals which differ to the Diril cymbals, I'm trying to sample some of these too but again same problem as mentioned above it seems.

The Black Sea range look interesting...I guess I'm trying to find something a little different, dry and dark, not too loud, Like the DeJohnettes but maybe a bit more colourful....

Cliff and I were just discussing the topic of marketing cymbals. Zildjians you can probably expect to sell all day long, like to me when I was young. "There's a 22" ride, I'll take it." Something more unusual like Bosphorus may sit on your wall for quite a while before a discerning customer decides it's his. That is the genius of a place like CymbalsOnly, where the entire world can sample a wide variety of unusual pieces.
