Appreciate that Gaz. As a previous owner though, I'm no Delite fan.
And I sure like the way these Saturns sound. Really want to hear them in person.
And 3/4 piece Delite kit- between 3 and 4K vs 6 piece Saturn kit 1500-1600.

I have to say, I've never really been sold on the Delite. When I came over to the US I tried a number of kits and settled on putting my affiliation Yamaha way, and got a Beech Custom.

I will admit though, the first time I heard an Oak Custom in the flesh as so to speak, I knew there was a love affair about to blossom. And when I found the one I have, I told Rich at my local GC if he didn't secure that kit for me, I'd never walk through their door again.

Yamaha Oak Customs are the secret weapon in the current Yamaha line up.

I like all three of those kits.

I agree, Oaks rock. I fell in love with mine again recently once I threw the remo heads that were on them across the room.
The kicks are sick, the toms are powerful and the snare has a great cut to it. I recently found an 8" tom in a matching finish(blue ridge) and I think the kit is done, unless someone gives up a 16" floor sometime.
Thy are the best drums for the money period, and you can get them used for a song, though the newer finishes are pretty badass.
Mine have been on the road pretty heavily since 2003 and you wouldn't know it by looking at them, except for a replacement kick hoop being a little bit deeper blue.(the original was sheared off by a PA speaker falling off its stand from 20 feet up, I thought I was going to die for a second)
Kelly if you've never tried them you should, even though we all love the Sonors, the oaks are awesome.
There I said it.

Hey Gaz,

Tell me a bit about the cymbal change.

Did you just one day decide that you were looking for a different sound, and make a complete change, and how did you land on Sabian?

Do you use different set-up for different things, or is this a complete change of 'cymbal personality'?

The photo of the Beech Customs, those sneaky bits of green sitting in the dark, surrounded by warm hues of cymbals and earth tone walls, is really a beaut! :D

The biggest problem I found with Paiste was availability. I spent almost a year trying out cymbals; even to the point of dropping into drum stores when I took the wife away on vacations.

What first started me thinking of Sabian, as opposed to Zildjian, were two unrelated incidents. The first, was playing a pair of 13" AAX X-celerator hats I tried on a whim against my 13" 2002 S/E's. Secondly, I emailed Sabian about getting information on what they currently had available, which ended up with me on the phone with Peter Stairs for almost two hours regarding my requirements.

Nevertheless, the clincher for me was my first rehearsal with some trial AAX-plosion crashes; after running through one track, Art, our guitarist (And swearing is something I have never heard him do) just blurted out 'F**king hell!! They are loud'.

As for set up; again after chatting to Peter and Kevin Laskey, I have ended up with a collection that covers most genre's. I have to admit, the people at Sabian have been great with everything I've thrown at them, and have been far more helpful than I expected them to be.

Thanks Gaz. Awesome pics. That looks really nice.

Yup..me too. Love my Sabians. The different series are really very different voices. Not a bunch of cymbals with different names that all sound similar. I've tried 4 series so far...Xtreme and Signature Donati's are my favorites.

Did I read you correctly Gaz, you prefer the Oak over the Beech kit?
