So the Dr said I can incrementally start putting weight on my leg: 30% this week, 60% next, 90% the following... This is such a great moment, I feel that the convalescence is now on a downhill run!! I can now limp and shuffle along without crutches, using the crutches as a glorified cane is quicker and easier than ever. Going up and down stairs is way more safe and stable and staying vertical for a stretch of time is much easier and less painful than before when I was singularly grounded. My left leg is more than happy to share the work again, I'm not sure it's ever been this strong and I have really developed a skillful and powerful hop on it!

I have also been sitting at the kit and lightly kicking it to get my muscles back in order. I can tell that I will be playing before I am fully walking. :D :D

Getting the surgery was a major process for easing the pain and getting back on track to my former health, the handicapped parking placard a huge perk, but starting the walking is a big step in seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! I'm grateful there is little to no pain and that my muscles haven't atrophied much.

Appreciate your legs and the ability to drum with them, my friends. I am so happy to be getting back what I took for granted before.

Great news, Chris! Not missing water till the well is dry is no idle chatter.

I am easing into it very gradually. Just playing until I feel that I am getting to a sore or weak point, kind of like weight training. I am able to play a little more every day, wooooo! :D

On a related note: my left leg is stronger than ever due to it's exclusive use over the last few weeks. I hope I don't end up flattening or inverting my hi hats! haha

Since my last update a month ago, I have been walking with nearly no issues. Played two 2.5 hour shows this weekend without any issue other than just being a little more tired than usual due to my hiatus.

Had a minor surgery this morning where they removed the long screw. It was important in aligning my bones and ligament for recovery, but was a hindrance in my walking and range of motion. Now my ankle feels much more loose and open. No pain since the local wore off.

This is good!

Here is a pic of said screw. You can see it in it's former residence earlier in this thread. It's fully titanium and about 2"/50mm long. The threads and self-drilling point are really sharp on this Torx headed screw. It was billed to me at a price of about $1000, so you are darn right I'm gonna keep it!
Wonder what it's worth on the 2nd hand/3rd world medical market..?

Also, biking and drumming are pretty much normal now. I can easily do a 3 hour show and bike around town. Walking is normal and limp free, but I can't do really long distances (more than a couple miles) nor run or jog without the tenderness kicking in.
